The purpose of the Striving Readers program is to raise the reading achievement levels of middle and high school aged students in Title I-eligible schools with significant numbers of students reading below grade level.

Striving Readers has three key program goals:

  1. Enhance the overall level of reading achievement in middle and high schools through improvements to the quality of literacy instruction across the curriculum
  2. Improve the literacy skills of struggling adolescent readers
  3. Help build a strong, scientific, research base around specific strategies that improve adolescent literacy skills.
